First, the nuts and bolts.

My contact is zanger8@gmail.com.

I am SAG-AFTRA financial core, which means that I am able to work on both non-union and union work. Additionally, for direct projects, there is no agency fee.

If you've listened to my demos, you'll get a feel for my tone and range. It's often weird trying to describe what I sound like, but a few people have said: accessible, easy-going, unique, impactful, conversational and pleasant. This is likely a good reason that I have found a decent niche in tech and brand storytelling.

can ramp it up if needed, but if I'm honest, there are plenty of other good people out there who can give you a hype read—and I'm more than happy to introduce you to them.

I am based in Portland, Oregon and, for the audio nerds out there, use a RØDE NT2A mic and Adobe Audition. I also can use Source-Connect if needed for any project.

As a general rule, I have found that recording at my home studio delivers a quality product and works for most projects. However, if there is a need for a studio, there are several in the Portland area that can be contracted, often at preferred hourly or day rates.

I take the craft of voiceover and voice acting very seriously, and my goals with any project are twofold:

  • Be as easy to work with as possible.

  • Treat the words on the page as not a script, but something that helps build a client's business and reputation.

A big reason for this philosophy is that I worked for The Martin Agency, one of the best creative shops in the world. Additionally, I was a journalist and an editor for Adweek, the world's largest and most influential advertising and marketing trade publication, and The Drum, a UK-based trade publication. I see (and hear) a lot of work and listen a little closer to casting and delivery. I've also been talking into microphones since 1995, and my greatest joy is when clients come back to tell me that the work we did together worked well.

For non-union work, I don't have a standard rate. Everything is negotiated on a fair-market, case-by-case basis. I'm likely not the cheapest out there, but you can rest assured that every project is handled professionally and isn't considered "done" until everyone is satisfied.

Below are a few nice things that people have said about me, and I look forward to connecting with you on your next project.

John Cross, Former Group Creative Director, AKQA

I've been fortunate enough to work with Doug on a couple of occasions as a VO artist. He's exceptionally good. He's incredibly cooperative, has a great range and gets to where you need to be very quickly and will then give as many different iterations of the same thing as you want. He's also very patient! He understands what is needed from a read very quickly but also offers suggestions of his own. I wouldn't hesitate to use Doug again or recommend him to anyone looking for a great VO read.

Nickolas Borders, Next Generation Platforms, Nike (formerly of Entercom)

I have been fortunate to work mostly with Doug many talents on video voiceover work. His broad range is amazing. However, what makes him stand out with my customers and production team is the quality and effective delivery. He has always delivered ahead of schedule while nailing it in one take and a few pickups. I would recommend Doug to anyone looking for creative direction.. and he is fun to work with.

Reid Hutchins, Founder, Hutchins Advertising

I have worked with Doug for a number of years now on voiceover and creative. He always delivers a great product, distinctive reads and is a pleasure to work with.

Margo Pearson, Managing Director (retired), InterCom

Doug is great to work with. He is reliable, flexible and responsive to our needs for quick turnaround. He thinks about the script he is reading and has worked with our clients to verify the pronunciation of unusual and non-English words so the end result is right.

Nate Parr, President and Partner, Fish Marketing

Zanger has delivered excellent creative for several of our clients. I know that when I work with Doug on a project, he'll deliver the right solution on-time, on-budget and on-message. He's a consummate pro who gets the big idea and has the talent and connections to pull off the job.

David Zumini, Managing Partner, Foundry 503

I've worked with Doug on two separate projects involving voiceover work. On both occasions, Doug delivered just the tone we were looking for, and he did so quite quickly! Doug was also very accommodating, providing multiple variations whenever we asked for an edit or decided to change a line last minute. In short, if you're looking for voice talent who can provide excellent results in a very timely manner, look no further than Doug. I'd definitely work with him again!
